About db & the Organizing Chaos Series
Organizing Chaos is a unique series which presents visual art, music soundscapes, meditation techniques and brainwave science, combined in a completely original way to help induce a state of wellness. The artists are creating editions of Organizing Chaos to promote wellness in several ways, such as: Meditation, Relaxation, Sleep, Stress Management and Concentration. The production of Organizing Chaos began when Debra McEachern and Brent Alan Plain formed a collaboration called "db". They began combining Debra's visual art with Brent's music and art-sequencing techniques with the purpose of creating a new art form of a slow, seamlessly transforming visual of sound. The idea was to create the inverse of most television and film programming today, where there are rapid scene changes both visually and sonically. On TV, the imagery, sound and message, change dynamically every few seconds to provide excitement and stimulation. db believe that perhaps this is training us to a reduced attention span and inducing a beta-state of consciousness, which is not conducive to relaxation or concentration. The Organizing Chaos series offers a completely new format for programming, where the art can be a direct aid to wellness. Where the artworks can be enjoyed, while simultaneously inducing a healthy state of relaxation through this synergy of unique content. This can be thought of as "Software for the Brain". The Components of Organizing Chaos For the "Bright Seed" project, db has researched meditation techniques and found both aural and lesser known visual components. The aural component is well known as the 'mantra'. This sound (chant) is repeated in the meditator's mind, which can induce desirable brainwave activity in the temporal lobes of the brain. There is also a visual mantra called the 'yantra'. This works much the same way as the mantra, but in a different portion of the brain called the occipital lobe where visual stimulation is processed by the brain. The yantra consists of symmetrical shapes and colour. The yantra inspires pictures in the mind much like one can see pictures in the glowing embers of a fire or a cloud. Serious practitioners of meditation will use both mantra and yantra to reach a deep meditative state to induce a Theta or Delta brainwave state of consciousness. In Organizing Chaos, db have created yantra-like imagery of symmetrical shapes and colour, in a slow moving form, with mantra-like music of repeating vocal chanting and ambient sound motifs. They have also added the science of binaural-beat theta-wave transmission to the audio component, which further induces a meditative state. Therefore, in Organizing Chaos, there are three components to induce the theta brainwave state, each stimulating different portions of the brain. These three components are: binaural beat science, mantra/yantra meditation aids, and the gentle flowing visual music art form, which acts as an engaging carrier. These components combined with the interactions of these targeted portions of the brain may provide a more complete meditation aid for anyone watching this DVD. There are currently many products that aid in relaxation and meditation. There are CDs of sounds where the only effective component is the embedded binaural beats. There are also electronic biofeedback devices that emit flashes of colour and blips of sound, which also use only the science of binaural-beats. A more complete approach is to consider that the "art" components and traditional meditation aids are also powerful aspects of inducing a desirable state of consciousness. It is important to engage as many portions of the brain as possible to obtain the most effective results. db believe by engaging more portions of the mind with the same brainwave stimulation, the brain will synchronize more effectively to this relaxed state of meditation. This is the only product of it's kind that merges art, music, traditional meditation aids, and science, where we feel the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. |
